Race Horses
Horse racing has become one of Australia’s favourite pastimes. The Melbourne Cup race can be given credit for the start of a beautiful relationship with horses racing in the many races in Australia and around the world. Horse racing is for those that have a passion for the sport.
It’s a Team Effort
No one would argue how important the horse is to the outcome of a race. However, far too few would even consider just how important the role of jockey and trainer are. The wrong match can prove disastrous. Horse races count on the right match.
It’s been seen time and time again, where a jockey and horse that are matched up do poorly. When the horse is re-matched with a different jockey, suddenly the horse excels. Jockeys and horses are a bit like an old married couple comfortable with each other – the good, the bad, and the ugly.
That means when you are looking at stats on various horses while trying to decide how you want to place your bet on the horse races, you need to make sure that you look at the big picture and the team effort it takes to cross the finish line as a winner.
The History of the Horse Races
Thoroughbred racing dates back to the Ancient Greeks. The UK was introduced to horse racing with the Arabian stallions dating back to the 12 century. It was 6 centuries later when race courses were beginning to be built around the UK. The British open being just one of the modern day races that’s watched by millions around the world.
Horse racing is even more popular in Australia than it is in Britain. In Australia, it is the fastest growing betting sport. As more information becomes available online to aid those thinking of betting, the number of people that give it a try around the world will increase significantly.
Retraining Race Horses
Race horses are a special breed. They are well trained, lean, mean, racing machines. However, at some point they cease to be able to do just that. It is then that organizations like Retraining of Racehorse or ROR step in and take these horses to retrain them so that they can live out their life comfortably.
These horses go on to live out their lives in a natural state at farms and ranches throughout the country, so if you have been feeling guilty about placing a bet because you are worried about the humanity of the animal, you can relax. No harm comes to any of these animals, and they certainly don’t land up as glue, like so many would like you to believe. A retired race horse is a happy race horse.
Enjoying the Races
With more and more people going to the horse races, the excitement at the track has reached such a state that you can feel the energy pulsing through. There are more than 60 racecourses in Britain with more than 1300 races each year. Many are held on Sundays and evenings.
There are two race types. The flat race is the most popular during the summer, while the jump race is most popular in the winter months. Flat racing happens on a flat surface that is turf or the all weather surface. Jump racing is run on turf and includes obstacles the horse must jump.
